Resolved Question: Does your cat have diabetes? This is for you?
Diabetes is not a death sentence, no life span needs to be lost and you can have your whole cat back if you jist put in a bit of effort and be proactive in treatment
This is a disease where you need to be proactive and be the primary caregiver with the vet as a secondary source. I can help you
Here are some tidbits
Doses should never be raised based on fructosimines or a single test. That could be dangerous
Curves at the vets can be off by more the 100 points due to stress and other factors making his dosing advice unreliable at best
Insulin needs can change over time
Are you feeding DM or MD?? You can do oh so much better for cheaper.
Were doses ever raised by more then 1/2 bid?
Are you giving more then 5 bid of insulin? sigh
Do you home test or know how to? it is the only way to know if it is safe to give insulin and get the info u need to treat this correctly. I can teach you how.
There is nothing in this for me except the pleasure of helping
I have owned and adopted diabetic cats for years and have worked on a diabetes board with 100's of other diabetic cat owners. I have helped many go into remission or be well controlled. No I am not a vetmy email is justken@rocketmail.com

moreResolved Question: Why do people still insist that therapy is better than medication for depression?
I have type II diabetes as well. Is talking that over with a therapist better than taking my prescribed medication? Of course not.
Chronic depression is not necessarily caused by "issues". However, issues are certainly caused by chronic depression. While therapy may be moderately helpful, it should certainly be secondary to treating the real problem at hand.
Chemical imbalances are real physical maladies. Why is there still a widespread stigma in regards to medicating one's chemical imbalances above the neck?I agree that therapy is useful for depression with a definite environmental cause. However, for real long-term chronic depression with no definite or consistent environmental contributors, medication is best the way to go. I've suffered from chronic depression now for over 30 years.

A child is admitted to the hospital for complications from diabetes. Which of the following nursing diagnoses will the nurse focus on as priority?
a) Fear, related to unfamiliar surroundings.
b) Risk of infection, related to circulatory changes, secondary to high blood glucose levels.
c) Altered nutrition, less than body requirements, related to inability to maintain glucose levels.
d) Ineffective management of therapeutic regimen, related to complexity.
At first, I thought it was be C, but i figured there's nothing in there that mentions the child has their nutrition altered. Then, maybe D because maybe this is too tough for the child to know what to do. At any rate, if anyone can help or give me some pointers on this one that'd be awesome!!

moreResolved Question: Will this shut Creationist up, "Evolutionist" please agree?
*Evolutionist*, if creationist can properly answer these 4 questions, then let's agree to back off of Creationist.. If creationist can answer these 4 questions, I will help support *creation science*, & want other *evolutionist* to do the same. And I am DEAD SERIOUS. In return, if creationist cannot answer these 3 questions, then creationist should really consider evolution for what it is... Here are the 4 questions
1.) How do you account for the endogenous retrovirus-L LTR (Long terminal repeat) promoter of human beta1,3-galactosyltransferase 5 that are active in the human colecteral cell line found to be active in orthologous LTRs of four non-human primates? How did this happen without common descent? How did the ERV insertion randomly insert themselves in the exact same locus? Which the odds are astronimcally low without common decent explicating it. And two, how were they all active within the orthologous LTR's of four non-human primates. Evolution can account for these, how can creation
2.) Chickens. Scientists addressed the molecular basis for this secondary loss of tooth formation in Aves by analyzing in chick embryos, where the status of molecular pathways known to regulate mouse tooth development. Similar to the mouse dental lamina, expression of Fgf8, Pitx2, Barx1, and Pax9 defines a potential chick odontogenic region. However, the expression of three molecules involved in tooth initiation, Bmp4, Msx1, and Msx2, are absent from the presumptive chick dental lamina. In chick mandibles, exogenous bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) induces Msx expression and together with fibroblast growth factor promotes the development of Sonic hedgehog expressing epithelial structures. Distinct epithelial appendages also were induced when chick mandibular epithelium was recombined with a tissue source of BMPs and fibroblast growth factors, chick skin mesenchyme. These results show that, although latent, the early signaling pathways involved in odontogenesis remain inducible in Aves and suggest that loss of odontogenic Bmp4 expression may be responsible for the early arrest of tooth development in living birds. So why do birds have DNA for making teeth, but don't have teeth? Evolution can account for this, how does creation.
3.)...(This is a counter for the second question, in case somebody wants to use the same gene, same designer argument) Why do all atavisms follow the phylogentic pattern. As the previous question stated, why do birds have DNA for making teeth, but don't have teeth. If you are going to use the same gene, same design argument (which is God created both birds & humans, he could have made the same gene for different species, then fine) but why don't birds have DNA for making nipples. IF birds did have DNA for making nipples, then that would falsify evolution. Or why don't humans have DNA to make wings, but we have a tailbone with 4 fused vertabrae, when all we need is one. All atavisms follow this pattern, why is that?
4.) O-linked N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (OGT) catalyses the transfer of a single GlcNAc to the Ser or Thr of nucleocytoplasmic proteins. OGT activity, which may compete with that of kinases, is involved in signaling in animals and plants, and abnormalities in OGT activities have been associated with type 2 diabetes. Scientists shown that ogt genes that predict enzymes with characteristic tetratricopeptide repeats and a spindly domain are present in some protists (Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Toxoplasma, and Dictyostelium) but are absent from the majority of protists examined (e.g. Plasmodium, Trypanosoma, Entamoeba, and Trichomonas). Similarly ogt genes are present in some fungi but are absent from numerous other fungi, suggesting secondary loss is an important contributor to the evolution of ogt genes. Nucleocytosolic extracts of Giardia and Cryptosporidium show OGT activity, and recombinant Giardia and Cryptosporidium OGTs are active in yeast and bacteria, respectively. These results suggest the possibility that O-GlcNAc modification of nucleocytosolic proteins also has function(s) in simple eukaryotes. So how were ALL the predictions postulated correct if evolution is false?
Hell I will throw one more easy one in there.. Why do males have nipples according to creation?
I am dead serious, I have been one of the biggest supporters of evolution, if creation can answer these questions, I will convert this instantUncle Thesis, nice straw man.. Made me chuckle, if that is what you think evolution is, no wonder you don't accept it as the truth it is... Species don't evolve like Pokemon you know

I'm 19, about 5 feet tall, 116 lbs. African-American.
History: Most of the symptoms I have I've had for years, but being raised in a family that pushed me to “just deal with it” whenever I complained about feeling sick I was forced to push myself. I'm in a much better situation, but since I've been here my health has consistently been declining and I've developed anxiety which keeps getting worse. Life before this year was pretty close to unbearably stressful including frequent sporadic bouts of homelessness all throughout my life as well as other traumatic events. I thought maybe it could be ptsd or GAD, but the anxiety just began now that I'm removed from the stressful situation and placed into a stable one, same with my body pretty much breaking down. Through-out my developmental years I abused a variety of pills (Been clean for awhile.) as well as ingesting mass amounts of soy (vegetarian for eight years) and starting birth control at 14. Family has a history of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, addiction. Possibly a history of hypothyroid, but only one family member is officially diagnosed ,four people total with parallel symptoms though.
Symptoms including, but not limited to: Dry, brittle hair & scalp, hair loss, dry skin, several different kinds of recurring headaches (center of head between ears mostly), weight fluctuationss ,Hirsutism, irregular periods, infertility, acne, visual disturbances (three dots in a triangular formation), bleeding gums, tooth decay, sporadic dizziness, loss of motor control, slurred speech, fevers (past 2 month), menstrual irregularities, infertility, sinuses hurt constantly throughout ears and face, several serious sinus infections over the years, "lump stuck in throat” feeling, swelling under her chin sometimes, heartburn, stabbing chest pains (really painful almost incapacitating), heart palpitations, back & shoulder pain (excruciating, chronic), trouble digesting food, no appetite, possible gall bladder problems, daily nausea, muscle weakness, joint pain, chronic yeast infections over the years (generally very prone to infection), "tingling" in limbs kind of like they fell asleep but more intense of a pins & needles feeling, lack of energy, shortness of breath., lump on her arm about a centimeter or so high, what feels like carpal tunnel, insomnia, serious anxiety. Temperature. is very low in the morning and high at night. She's extremely sensitive to cold, sensitive to light(sometimes it causes her to vomit or pass out)
We're worried that the ranges of normality might be off considering she's a pretty tiny person and i guess wouldn't have the same range of normality as someone who is of average height and weight or someone that hasn't been on birth control on and off since they were 14
Theories have been put forth that it could be either depression in general (it absolutely isn't), 1.pituitary or secondary hypothyroid, 2.Adrenal failure originating in the pituitary gland( due to what seems like bouncing between hyperthyroid and hypothyroid) 3. Leukemia (due to my wbc being on the high end and my rbc being on the low end) or some Autoimmune disease (due to my lymphocyte count being on the high end and my monocyte count being on the low end)
Doctors are just pretty much refusing to listen to her tell them her symptoms or perform tests, especially if they know her history. Or they tell her it's anxiety or depression because her results are “within range”.

I forgot to clarify a few things. The tooth decay is recent, most of the enamel on my teeth is gone. I don't have insurance at all. I can't work and I can't go to school. And I'm no longer a vegetarian as of one year ago.
Also, I've been all over the vitamins situation. All kinds of D, B, B12, A and some other multi as well as iron supplements. Not diabetic. Been having trouble feeling my peehole and trouble peeing.

Doctors are just pretty much refusing to listen to her tell them her symptoms or perform tests, especially if they know her history. Or they tell her it's anxiety or depression because her results are “within range”.
Here are a lot of test results, if you can make any sense out of them I'd really appreciate it:

I forgot to clarify a few things. The tooth decay is recent, most of the enamel on my teeth is gone. I don't have insurance at all. I can't work and I can't go to school. And I'm no longer a vegetarian as of one year ago. Also, I've been all over the vitamins situation. All kinds of D, B, B12, A and some other multi as well as iron supplements.
moreResolved Question: Creationists answer 3 questions, & I will convert on spot?
3.) O-linked N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (OGT) catalyses the transfer of a single GlcNAc to the Ser or Thr of nucleocytoplasmic proteins.
Also please don't claim I don't know what I am talking about, because if you want me to break it down to you, I will. Just give me your e-mail address & I will break it down to you....Answer these 3 questions & I will convet on spot"Oh sweet, you're like the atheist Kent Hovind. Minus the cash reward"
How is this so? I am far from ignorantActually I really DO care about the answer, because these are something creation cannot account for, yet creation wants to be taught in schools. So creation should easily be able to account for this, & I would like to know whyYes, I know know bacteria becoming resistant to anti bacteria is a result of evolution, but creationist say "That is micro evolution, not macro".. Which is a typical straw man.. & yes birds have DNA for making teethMichael I am FAR from a genious. I am striving to be one thoughLae, you got me half way...hahahahaa.. I should have been more specific... I should have asked how does creationist (people who take everything in Genesis literally instead of saying it is an allegory).. how does the creation story account for this.. But for answering my question, I will give you 10 points :)Males nipples are the result of autosomes. Males have nipples because EVERYBODY is conceived a women the first 8 weeks (I believe). Nipples start to develop in the fetus around the fourth week before the y chromosome kick in, & testosterone commences to have an effect on sex characteristicsRay G.. First evolution has NOTHING to do with the origin of the universe, that is the big bang.. Also the big bang, didn't explode, it expanded.. Learn the theories you are trying to debunkPeople realize that I am not using these big words to sound smart. I am using these big word, because there is no other alternative for the wordLawliet- The burden of proof is on you, not me
moreResolved Question: My Diabetic Chihuahua going for cushing test!?
My dog was Diagnostic Diabetic the last february, now he is getting 2 insulin shots twice at day, of three units. Last weekend the vet told me his sugar is high again and his leaver level is high too... thinking that he could have a urine infection and this could be the answer to what was happening to him, we did the urine test and results were negative. Now we are thinking he could have the cushing disease, what I first thought he had, but the vet told me it wasn't necessary to to the test because he was diabetic. Tomorrow he is having the cushing test and I am 90% sure he has it, and I am so mad because I could treat it 7 months ago, but my biggest mistake was that I just believed in what the vet told me.
Diabetes is most of the times a secondary disease, and most of the dogs with cushing (primary disease), have it.
He is ok, but once in a while freaks out: His back hair gets spiky and he follows me everywhere, sometimes shaking .We think this is because high or low sugar level but it is so confusing, If low sugar, he wouldn't do it after eating, if high sugar, he wouldn't do it after exercising.
What do you think?

moreResolved Question: Determining levels of prevention? Can someone please help?
Determining levels of prevention?
analyze the scenarios and describe the level of prevention is primary prevention, secondary prevention, or tertiary prevention. Do you think the prevention strategy used in the scenario was effective? If not what would you do differently?
Scenario 1: Violence Prevention in a High Risk Community
Karyn, a social services worker, is confronted daily with issues such as homicide, suicide, child and elder abuse, battered women, sexual assault, and domestic violence in the community agency in which she works. Her job responsibilities are to build community and agency coalitions to help meet the needs of the community.
One day, an enraged young man stormed into the agency demanding to know the whereabouts of his wife, whom he had ordered not to leave the house. The wife was cowering in Karyn’s office after being referred by her physician for suspicious bruises.
The agency has a procedure for handling potentially violent situations such as this one, in addition to providing a panic button. Someone pushed the panic button behind the receptionist’s desk, which brought the police within minutes.
The wife was later transported to a shelter for battered women. The shelter provides classes in self-esteem, parenting, and job training and placement. It also assists clients with access to eligible welfare benefits and housing.
Scenario 2: Closure of a Planned Parenthood Clinic
You are a social worker in your community’s county public health office. Of the 60,000 people living in your county, 12,000 are women of childbearing age. The teen pregnancy rate is above the national average. Twenty-five to 30 percent of the county’s births are unintended. With an annual per capita income of just over $13,000, most of the population lives below the poverty level.
At your weekly team meeting, your manager announces that the Planned Parenthood Clinic in the county is closing due to lack of funding. Other county family-planning providers have waiting lists and cannot take new patients. Team consensus is that lack of accessible and affordable family planning services will lead to more unintended pregnancies, child abuse, and poverty.
You organize a group of other health and human service providers in the county to solve the issue. After much discussion, the public health office decides to offer limited family planning services.
Scenario 3: Homeless Health Care
You are a case manager in a community mental health center. Many of your clients are homeless and have either mental disorders or substance abuse and health problems.
Health problems in the homeless are exacerbated by their homeless status. Exposure to extreme temperatures and a lack of sanitary facilities, nutritious food, restful sleep, and support networks worsen infections and chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. The homeless are less likely to take their medications for their mental and other physical diseases. Most homeless do not seek health care until they are so sick or injured that they have to be transported to the emergency room by ambulance.
Although there is a community health center in the county, it is not accessible financially or geographically to the homeless. After determining the needs of the homeless population in your case load, you meet with the leaders of all the agencies that provide services to the homeless, including the health center. You learn that there are three shelters, one food bank, and two faith-based initiatives providing services to the homeless.
A collaborative decision is made to provide basic health services in the shelters. The health center will supply the clinical providers, supplies, and equipment; the shelters will provide the space, furniture, and utilities; and the mental health center will provide on-site case management that includes counseling and support groups.

pt saw provider repeat labs order which is definitely important
Dr ordered

I was just curious what another provider would have done in this case. Is my interpretation way off. I am thinking along the correct lines with urine dipstick or did not totally miss it. Is the provider approach to conservative for this c/o or totally appropriate. I want to learn thought I ask.
Also if I am right and you suspect diabetes inspidus with b/c low specific gravity are there not other test that you can order. ADH ???
Curiosity is killing me and I need to know. I appreciate your feed back.
moreVoting Question: Question about secondary diabetes?
I have secondary diabetes. As long as I take my thyroid meds my blood sugar levels stay in range. My question then is this. Conversely, if I take too much thyroid meds, would I get secondary hypoglycemia? Wondering if the secondary condition swings both directions dependent on the treatment of the primary condition. It would make sense logically, but I'm not sure that's how it works. Thanks!

My husband and I are 30 and looking at term life insurance.
He's healthy as a horse with no illness in his family history and is the only source of income.
I on the other hand have Crohn's disease. My dad died at 49 of pancreatic cancer. My mom had breast cancer at 38 and now at 55 has secondary bone cancer and diabetes

So I'm going to cost a fortune to insure.
Since he's the only financial provider so his will be much higher than mine. Should I maybe make his 10yr and my smaller one 20?
Also what is a good company to go through?

moreResolved Question: (Faith-message here) and Does your at have diabetes???
Faith. It isn't as hard to regulate a at as you think. Please email me for more info
Diabetes
This is a disease where you need to be proactive and be the primary caregiver with the vet as a secondary source. I can help you learn what you need to take control.
Here are some tidbits
Doses should never be raised based on fructosamines or a single test. That could be dangerous
Curves at the vets can be off by more the 100 points due to stress and other factors.
Insulin needs can change over time
Are you feeding DM or MD?? You can do oh so much better for cheaper. Lower carbs is what reduces insulin needs.
Were doses ever raised by more then 1/2 bid? sigh
Are you giving more then 5 bid of insulin? sigh
Do you hometest or know how to? it is the only way to know if it is safe to give insulin and get the info u need to treat this correctly. I can teach you how.
There is nothing in this for me except the pleasure of helping
I have owned and adopted diabetic cats for many years and have helped many get controlled by diet after a time.

moreResolved Question: Secondary Symptoms of Diabetes?
I am about 60, controlled hypertensive via ACE inhibitor. After a stressful period my blood glucose popped higher than 120, maybe to 150 range. Doctor put me on diet. Last two fasting blood glucose tests were normal, A1C tests were below 6.0
My cousin told me that a skin problem might be a diabetes secondary symptom but I get mixed signals from a dermatologist and my primary care physician.
My fingers and toes get hard skin. The skin on my fingers starts to split/bleed - sometimes spontaneously, often with physical stress like tennis. Neither physician says this is a diabetic side effect. Since my blood sugar is currently under control, I shouldn't have this kind of problem as a secondary symptom. Nor does stuff I've found online seem to exactly match my symptom.
Does anyone out there have any experience with this kind of problem? Am I looking at one or two conditions here? Just trying to sort it all out. Any help would be appreciated. After a bath, I often use a skin moisturizer, one of the 'intensive care' lotions, but I still get splits. Worse in cold weather. Sometimes I use one of the multi-threat antibiotic creams instead. I have a topical prescription ointment. Nothing seems to help, yet my blood sugar has been normal for past two tests. I'm just trying to decide what is going on here.

moreResolved Question: Does your cat have diabetes? let me help?
This is a disease where you need to be proactive and be the primary caregiver with the vet as a secondary source. I can help you lear what you need to take control.
Here are some tidbits
Doses should never be raised based on fructosimines or a single test. That could be dangerous
Curves at the vets can be off by more the 100 points due to stress and other factors.
Insulin needs can change over time
Are you feeding DM or MD?? You can do oh so much better for cheaper.
Were doses ever raised by more then 1/2 bid?
Are you giving more then 5 bid of insulin? sigh
Do you hometest or know how to? it is the only way to know if it is safe to give insulin and get the info u need to treat this correctly. I can teach you how.
There is nothing in this for me except the pleasure of helping
I have owned and adopted diabetic cats for years and have worked on a diabetes board with 100's of other diabetic cat owners. I have helped many go into remission or be well controlled. I am not a vet
moreResolved Question: Cat with Diabetes and secondary hepatic lipidosis?
In Feb., I found out my 11-year-old cat has diabetes. We have been giving her a unit of insulin every day since then and it seems her health has been going down hill. I'm in Florida with my husband for the summer and my cat is with my parents (her permanent home since a kitten). My mother just called saying my cat has hepatic lipidosis and she doesn't know if hospitilizing the cat is worth the money, since she might not even get better. All the vet can do is give her fluids. She asked if uthenasia (sp) is an option. I really don't know what to do, because I love my cat very much and want to be with her when she dies, but I won't be home for another 4 weeks, and my mom says she's hardly eating at all. Should I give the go ahead to uthenize her now so she doesn't suffer any longer or wait till I'm home? Is uthenizing extreme in this case? What are the chances of her getting better if we continue insuline. The main problem is we can't give her insulin unless she eats food. which shes not.My cat has had a loss if appetite for quite a while. It's only now that the situation has got much worse. She is extremely picky. We have tried and tried to force feed and that is the only way she will eat. We have tried canned tuna, canned cat food, chicken, dry cat food, baby food and the likes. She simply will not eat. We are afraid the only option is being tube fed at the vet, however it's expensive and we don't know if she will even last long anyways because of her diabetes.
moreResolved Question: A Bit of Good News 4 Me, Please Read?
Back in January this year, I went to ER and was consequently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (glucose 914) and kept in ICU for about a week to stabilize. My a1c was 12, i was discharged with instructions for 60 units of 70/30 twice a day, as well as sliding scale for secondary insulin and advised to check glucose 3 times a day at a minimum, along with a very strict diet ( which i am sure you all know all about :D). Well, today I am happy to report that I keep my sugar between 80 and 110 and never have to take the sliding scale dose. I do not exercise like I should, but I am also happy to report that with my lifestyle change since diagnosis, I have lost 16 pounds and still losing in a healthy manner. I am not fasting just eating less carbs and smaller more frequent meals. ( I used to eat medium size meals but only twice a day.) So, I am proud of myself and will continue on this path for the rest of my life. Thank you for reading this.P.S. My a1c is now 6.5

moreResolved Question: Vet Question About Diabetes In Dwarf Hamsters.?
Campbell's Russian Dwarf Hamsters (Phodopus campbelli) are prone to diabetes. It is thought to be a genetically inherited disorder, although one hamster autopsied by a vet the UK thought it was possibly secondary to a virus that destroyed pancreatic cells. But since it is thought to be genetic, all responsible dwarf hamster breeders test their stock for diabetes. Most of us test using home urine test strips for ketones and glucose. My question is: How accurate are urine test strips meant for humans going to be in hamster urine? Hamsters concentrate their urine much more than people do - wouldn't this affect the reading (giving a falsely high result)? If not, why not? If so, what are some other methods to test for diabetic hamsters? Most vets don't deal with pocket pets, and even when they consent to treat them, many don't even know the healthy blood glucose level for a dwarf hamster. What are our options?
moreResolved Question: Is an 800 calorie a day for a woman enough to survive on?
I'm 5'2" & weigh about 235. I also have: Diabetes (Type !!-insulin dependent), Metabolic Syndrome, MS (Secondary Pregressive), Oesto-Arthritis, Hyper-thyroid, Fibromyalgia, Graves Syndrome, very low blood pressure & a few other things that I can't remember. As you can see the list is quite long. Most of my meds cause weight gain. I am eating about a 1,200 calorie diet now & its tough. I can't really exercise due my lack of movement. How can I lose weight without exercise? Help!
moreResolved Question: Cushing's Syndrome? Other medical problem?
I have had secondary ammenorhea since I was 13 (I'm now 19). Birth control was able to remedy the problem but I've been off the pill since the summer and my last menstruation was in November. Also, I have a weight problem that is concentrated solely around my abdomen (approx 10-15lbs)and a little in my face. No matter what extremes I go to, I never lose any weight. I was tested for diabetes and hypothyroidism but both tests came back negative. I was wondering if it could be Cushing's syndrome. My dad had a pheocromocytoma, a rare adrenal tumor and I was wondering if there could be a genetic link causing me to have adrenal dysfunction?
