Now Answers to Quality Meat Questions
Open Question: atheists: do you think the following process is reasonable? how could it be improved?
The Church of Euthanasia Butchering the Human Carcass for Human Consumption by Bob Arson This is a step-by-step guide on how to break down the human body from the full figure into serviceable choice cuts of meat. As in any field, there are a number of methods to the practice, and you may wish to view this as a set of suggestions rather than concrete rules. You will notice that the carving of the larger or "commercial" cuts down into smaller specific or "retail" cuts will be only mentioned in passing, and not concentrated upon. Also, the use of human fat and viscera is generally avoided, and left only to the most experimental chef. These choices, along with recipes and serving suggestions, are nearly infinite in variety, and we leave them to you. We've found these guidelines to be simple and functional, but recognize that there is always room for improvement and we welcome your suggestions. Before getting to the main task, it must be mentioned that the complete rendering of the human carcass requires a fairly large amount of time, effort, and space. If the consumer does not wish to go through the ordeal of processing and storing the bulk of the entire animal, an easy alternative is as follows. Simply saw through one or both legs at the points directly below the groin and a few inches above the knee. Once skinned, these portions may then be cut into round steaks of the carver's preferred thickness, cut into fillets, deboned for a roast, etc. Meat for several meals is thus readily obtained without the need for gutting and the complexities of preparing the entire form. The human being (also referred to throughout culinary history as "long pig" and "hairless goat" in the case of younger specimens) is not generally thought of as a staple food source. Observing the anatomy and skeleton, one can see that the animal is neither built nor bred for its meat, and as such will not provide nearly as much flesh as a pig or cow (for example, an average 1000 pound steer breaks down to provide 432 pounds of saleable beef). The large central pelvis and broad shoulder blades also interfere with achieving perfect cuts. There are advantages to this however, especially due to the fact that the typical specimen will weigh between 100-200 pounds, easily manipulated by one person with sufficient leverage. Here the caution in choosing your meal must be mentioned. It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember that animals raised for slaughter are kept in tightly controlled environments with their health and diet carefully maintained. Humans are not. Thus not only is the meat of each person of varying quality, but people are also subject to an enormous range of diseases, infections, chemical imbalances, and poisonous bad habits, all typically increasing with age. Also as an animal ages, the meat loses its tenderness, becoming tough and stringy. No farm animal is ever allowed to age for thirty years. Six to thirteen months old is a more common slaughtering point. You will obviously want a youthful but mature physically fit human in apparently good health. A certain amount of fat is desirable as "marbling" to add a juicy, flavorful quality to the meat. We personally prefer firm caucasian females in their early twenties. These are "ripe". But tastes vary, and it is a very large herd. The butcher will need a fairly roomy space in which to work (an interior location is suggested), and a large table for a butcher's block. A central overhead support will need to be chosen or installed ahead of time to hang the carcass from. Large tubs or barrels for blood and waste trimmings should be convenient, and a water source close by. Most of the work can be done with a few simple tools: sharp, clean short and long bladed knives, a cleaver or hatchet, and a hacksaw. Body Preparation: Acquiring your subject is up to you. For best results and health, freshness is imperative. A living human in captivity is optimal, but not always available. When possible make sure the animal has no food for 48 hours, but plenty of water. This fasting helps flush the system, purging stored toxins and bodily wastes, as well as making bleeding and cleaning easier. Under ideal conditions, the specimen will then be stunned into insensitivity. Sharp unexpected blows to the head are best, tranquilizers not being recommended as they may taint the flavor of the meat. If this is not possible without exciting the animal and causing a struggle (which will pump a greater volume of blood and secretions such as adrenaline throughout the body), a single bullet through the middle of the forehead or back of the skull will suffice. Hanging: Once the animal is unconscious or dead, it is ready to be hoisted. Get the feet up first, then the hands, with the head down. This is called the "Gein configuration". Simple loops of rope may be tied around the hands and feet and then attached to a crossbar or overhead beam. Or, by making a cut behind the Achilles tendon, a meathook may be insertedang yamster truncated it! read the full here-> http://www.churchofeuthanasia.org/e-sermons/butcher.html note the recipe at the end... would that go well with babby?Lea R: the story is here -> http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-5922725-details/Cannibal+saut%C3%83%C2%A9ed+victim's+penis/article.do moreResolved Question: A challenge from a vet to find scientific studies proving natural foods are better?
I took my 3 month old kitten to the vet yesterday to check for worms because he was having diarrhea. The vet asked me what I was feeding him and I replied Taste of the Wild and Chicken Soup. He suggested that I switch the kitten over to purina. He claimed millions of cats have been raised and are healthy on that. I mentioned that I didn't want to have by-products in the food, and his argument was that in the wild the cat would eat all the organs and the bones so the diet was actually similar to what they would eat in the wild. I then mentioned that I didn't like the preservatives used as some of them are carcinogens. He rebuted saying that intestinal and other forms of cancer are quite rare in cats and he hasn't seen any documentation that natural foods lessen the chances of developing cancer. Finally I brought up what I've heard about rendered meats sometimes being cancerous animals or even shelter animals that were euthanized and he insisted that that was totally false. He acted like he could not believe the stuff I said. Like I was crazy or something. He also said that a few years ago when the recall happened many pets were brought in sick or dying and the majority of them were eating high quality and/or smaller companies' brands. He was insinuating that I'm actually taking more of a risk with my pets' health by feeding them a brand that has been in the past. The funny thing is, the vet does sell science diet and Iams there, but he was reccommending purina to me. He claims that the food I'm feeding now is causing the diarrhea and the cat will probably not have that anymore if he switches to a lesser-quality food. I still don't want to feed my cats a low-quality food. My previous cat ate friskies his whole life and he ended up having kidney failure and severe hyperthyroidism. I brought this up as well with the vet and he said that 85% of cats will develop hyperthyroidism regardless of what they are eating. He has challenged me to bring in articles that are proven scientific studies showing that high quality organic or holistic foods reduce the chances of health issues in cats. Any links?Badjoke, I agree that in the wild cats eat mice with fur and bones obviously, but what would be the benefit to feeding a food with carcinogens and artificial flavors and dyes as oppossed to one without? moreOpen Question: I think I have a fear of meat!?
This is a little strange but I'm at a loss to try and explain it. Ever since I was little (I'm now 23) I've disliked meat. I like the piss-poor quality meat like sausages and beef burgers but not decent meat like pork chops or steak. Recently I've been trying to eat different things in the hope of improving my diet but whenever I try and eat meat I cant do it. It repulses me and there have been occasions where I have nearly thrown up. I'm a big fan of curries and there have been times when I had issues even eating that. I'm not a vegetarian, and I'm not even remotely interested in becoming one. I've never had a bad experience involving meat. I've tried meat substitutes and I don't like them either - although not as strongly.. It just looks like I hate meat. Has anyone else ever had this problem or something similar? Is it even possible to have a phobia of meat? Is there any such thing as a natural-born vegetarian?I also have an issue with soft or mushy food like cold pasta or cheese. Anything which I cannot easily chew or swallow can make me retch.I think mind not liking it - I certainly don't force myself to eat it. However, what I'm trying to do it understand WHY I have just problems with it be it bio-chemical, psychological or something else.Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: you're absolutely correct. I saw this today in my supermarket for £4.99, on the box it said: Chicken & Liver (just one example) Minimum 60% all the other meals said the same thing chicken & turkey, chicken & duck and there was another one all saying minimum 60%, it listed oils/ash/vitamins and minerals content and stated that no artificial Colors or flavoring were used. It was the best one i could find and on the box it said 60% real meat so am i genuinely getting what it says on the box? This came in a meat selection plus a fish. Every other product eg sheba/felix/whiskers listed Meat and animal derivatives 4% as the first thing on the ingredient list. So brought the HiLife as it DIDN'T say this. I've already asked this once but one person didn't read the question right and the other one said they had never heard of it but to try Purina. Neither of which offered any real info so if you have heard of it could you please say what you think. I'm wondering because it was only 50p more expensive than the felix "as good as it looks" range, so was wondering if what it says on the box is true.I have looked on the website already to see if there was any secret ingrediants they had decided to leave out but it just said the same thing as the box. Thank you both for ansewring and looking into it the links were very helpful. moreOpen Question: Can i mix the dog food and feed to my puppy?
I have a 4 months old Shiba Inu / Husky mix. and i've been feeding Innova EVO for the past week. I heard it was high quality stuff and contains all meat products. 've been hearing about raw food diets and I'd really love more information about it since I'm getting a Chihuahua in a few months. -Is it really cheaper, in the short run and long run? How much is it approx. per month for a normal (6 pounds and up) chihuahua? I'm not really gonna bother to go through all the work if its not noticeably cheaper. I'd just buy a quality dog food. -Is it worth the extra time it takes to prepare and buy the food? -What are things that you'd give a chihuahua on a raw food diet? -Is it messy? Just wondering, because "raw" food diet sounds messy. I'm pretty good with touching gross things but I don't want meat juice everywhere. D; -Do you know any forums dedicated to this diet? -Lets say I bought a adult dog that's on a dry food in a bag diet, how easy is it to transfer diets? -What is BARF feed? -I'm a vegetarian and quite frankly going to a butcher is kinda scary. Do I have to go to a butcher? o_O -Aren't there more recalls on meat then dog food? I don't want to buy bad meat.. And any more info you can give. my cat had kittens seven weeks ago, but we are having a problem with weaning one of them. the other two have been eating solids for a couple of weeks now and love the taste of meat (i feed them high quality wet food), but the other kitten just isnt interested. we've tried putting a dot of food on her nose for her to lick, tried putting it in her mouth, finger feeding her...literally everything we can think of, but she just wont eat it. but the other day after having a sandwich i saw that the fussy kitten was by the side of my plate, nibbling on the crusts of bread. she was so hungry and really seemed to be enjoying the taste. could she be vegetarian, or just simply not like meat? my boyfriend is vegan and i know from what hes told me that cats are not able to live on a vegetarian/vegan diet as their digestive system just cant cope with it, but my kittey just seems to hate meat. we have tried every flavor under the sun ((rabbit, beef, chicken, tuna, salmon, some in gravy, some in jelly etc), and she just will not eat it. but she has been vet checked, is very lively, happy and healthy and as she can eat and enjoy the bread, she obviously has no jaw or digestive issues...i have tried her on dry food also but she didnt even look at that..i just dont know what to do. she is not being taken from her mum so she will still her access to milk, but it's really tiring mamma cat out and its not fair that that one kitty is still feeding off her after nearly two months. i just dont know what to do or why she wont go near meat. any advice would be amazing. thanks in advance.thank you for your answers so far guys. i forgot to mention that i have tried her on kitten milk and she loves it. she'll happily lap it out of the bowl. when i first started weaning them, i would mash up some canned food, heat it for 20secs in the microwave til it was blood temperature, then mix it with kitten milk. she still wouldnt eat the meat then. i tried soaking some dry food in warm water for her too, but she just though that was something to play with! i too am against animals being vegetarian, and although i am vegetarian, would not want to enforce this upon my cat. she just doesnt seem to like meat and is only interested in human food. she is the eldest of the litter, although she is the most timid. she digests and eliminates as normal, she just seems to hate meat and cat food!! moreResolved Question: Any opinions on EVO 95% meat canned dog food?
My dog is currently eating Natural Balance and loves the dry food, but its some days a chore to get her to eat wet food, and then at times she will eat it all. She always eventually eats it, but I was thinking maybe she was not loving the wet food. I went to a natural food pet store today and the guy recommended EVO and its the 95% meat canned wet food. She ate it all in like 2 seconds, but I wasn't sure how the quality of the food is. She seems to like wetter foods which Natural Balance is not. So was wondering if anyone knew about EVO and the quality and had any other suggestions of natural food that had the wetness to it. moreVoting Question: Please fill in my questionnaire on low fat main meals for my food techn project?!?

My grandmother worked from dawn to dusk, tending the garden, the animals, washing clothing pretty much by hand, sewing and mending clothing, baking bread, any meat had to be killed and cleaned, chickens had to be plucked, beans, vegetables had to be picked and cleaned and beans snaped and peas shelled, and the house cleaned without modern conveniences, everything had to be ironed, vegetables and fruits picked and canned and jams and jellies made, cooking took up a lot of time, everything from scratch, curing hams and bacon, salting fish etc etc Then there were community work bees and church functions, etc . Spring cleaning when all the quilts and bedding and rugs and curtains etc had to be aired and beaten and cleaned, there was no taking them to the dry cleaners, knitting sweaters and toques and mittens and socks etc She had very little time to give to her children My mother too didnt have the modern conveniences we do and was always canning and pickling and making jams and jellies, cooking again took a lot more time, scouring those old pans that everything stuck to, and looking after the garden and sewing and mending and hanging out clothes to dry, and ironing and again there were church functions and sewing bees, all my friends had animals that needed to be looked after, and chickens, eggs to be gathered, etc She spent very little time with children, as long as they were fed and clothed and reasonably clean they were shooed out the door to tend for themselves or do some weeding or go play. After dinner there were dishes to do, laundry to fold, mending, etc Or company came to visit and the kids were shooed outdoors or told to go play somewhere and leave the adults alone So WHY on earth do people, usually foolish old men have these false memories of a loving mother at home with the children gathered around or on her knee and loved and catered to etc? Its just plain myth IMO Nowadays mom comes home from work, pops a precooked meal into the microwave, throws the laundry into the dryer, the dishes into the dish washer, and sits down to spend time with her children. The ONLY thing I can see that men consider negative is they are expected to load the dishwasher and get their own beer these days. The rest if pure fiction IMOSorry for the typos, and sorry its so long. If I had just said our grandmothers and mothers were too busy someone would have argued and denied it :-(I think looking at some of these answers it depends on how old the people answering are. I am 57, my mother was born about 1917 and my Grandmother in the late 1800's. I worked until I had my accident, and I spent a lot more time with my kids, quality time. Everyday after work from the time I came home until their bedtime, and every Saturday and Sunday for at least 9 hours. Approx 38 hours a week on average of "family time". They never came home to an empty house, they had adult "sitters" . I did the laundry etc after they went to bed, did the yardwork and stuff early weekend mornings, after lunchtime it was time with the kids, unless they were playing with other kids and preferred to do that. The TV wasnt turned on unless it was raining too hard to play outside or too cold. Then we watched Disney movies together, played board games, coloured, painted, read, baked cookies, played with their toys, etcBeing the kind of person I am I was never content to be a "stay at home mom". I needed the challenge of a career, the company of adults at work, and the sense of being independent and doing something that made a difference to others. I was a better mother because I was a happier, more content mother because of my job. I would have resented being isolated and stuck at home not really using my brain, my skills, my education and passion for helping people like new immigrants who needed settlement services, ESL, throw away kids who needed help etc. I would have been bored, resentful, depressed, and angry had I been forced to stay at home and be "just" a wife and mother, and only talk to and interact with children. Adjusting after my accident was very hard for me. moreVoting Question: What do you think about capitalism, exploitation, inequality, poison, pollution, rip offs, materialism, etc?
Sure under capitalism there is alot of innovation, money, and materials, but there is also massive pollution, worker exploitation and people being used as disposable commodities, massive inequalities, the need to keep people materialstic so your business can survive and people can keep their jobs, money means more than people, enslaved employment, less regulation to stop greed poison in food, air, water, and products, few rich which leads to oligarchy, etc and the biggest of all is the selfishness with lack of care. As long as we continuosly need money for our neccesities, needs, and expenses we are going to be locked in an enslaved employment because someone else has the money that we need in order to live; therefore, the longer we need money we will be working for someone because they'll have the money we need in order to stay alive. People should not have to depend on working for a private company to pay for housing, rent, utilities, insurances, cost of healthcare, education, good quality food, gas, maintenance for things, when the only way that a private company can stay alive is by persuading and trying to convince people to buy from them; but as soon as a people buy less or stop buying, the people that depended on consumers or that company can no longer pay for their neccesities, needs,& expenses; its not stable & is too risky. Plus I think it is unethical to persuade or use someone for your benefit or profit. People think they have good jobs, but there jobs are exploiting and using people as disposable commodities for shareholders benefits, polluting and poising the water, air, food, & products, try to manipulate peoples psyche so with advertising so they can buy from them, greedy, ripping people off with prices, and do alot of other legal but unethical things. Alot of company's just employ colored people because diversity is good for business and profit. People spend 1/3 of their life paying for a house with interest that cost too much in the first place. Banks, pharmaceuticals, factories, plants, meat factories, retailers, schools, insurance companies, etc; not all companies are bad, however most don't really care about people they just want their image to look good or change the mental psyche of people someway because happy workers produce more and happy intrigued customers spend money. Don't look at socialist countries and their dictators, look at socialism vs. capitalism as definitions and their pros and cons. Success is not who has the biggest this or has consumed the most that or with money. Success is happiness, peace, love, respect, morals, and life. Just because someone can invent something or innovate it does not mean that we need it or have to have it. moreResolved Question: Good or bad essay? lord of the flies.?
In english i have to write an essay about symbolism.. Tell me what you guys think When one reads a novel, they try to analyze the book to find its meaning. The author puts into the novel multiple literary elements to help the reader find the meaning of the novel, and to make the book easier to read. Some of these elements are put on purpose. . In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Golding uses a lot of symbolism in The Lord of the Flies. The entire book is symbolic of the nature of man and society. A symbol Golding uses throughout the book is the conch.. It symbolized control through reason, and also order and unity through consent. It also has a symbolic of order of justice, which is broken by savagery. The person holding the conch had the power, and it created order and rules since when it was called, everyone had to listen. Another symbol is Piggy’s glasses. It symbolized technical knowledge needed for fire, and for rescue. While Piggy had them, he was able to give advice to the group, such as that of the signal fire. It was the glasses that created the fire. However, after the glasses are broken, the group loses what insight they had. The war paint is also a symbol. It symbolized the rejection of society. In a way, when they put on the mask of war paint ,they took off the mask of society and revealed their true inner selves which was savage. The fire symbolizes good, as well as evil, almost like man. It will make smoke for the rescue, unites the boys, and cooks the meat that they catch. Whereas the evil qualities of the fire will burn a child to death, destroy part of the island, and is the center of the tribal dance and the killing of Simon. The ashes of the fire could represent the dead flesh of the kids, and animals. In conclusion, I have found there to be numerous symbols in "Lord of the Flies." I also think that these symbols were the basis of the storyline and that William Golding has done an excellent job of using these representations. moreResolved Question: why is burger king bad for you?

Hi everyone, I realize that there is already a lot of questions on this but where can I find detailed information on feeding raw? All of the sites I have visited don't really have information I need such as what quantity my dog needs for her size, how often she needs to eat per day and what foods exactly I give her, how I prepare it and what kind of meat. I am also open to buying a good book anyone has to recommend. Thanks moreResolved Question: Can anyone answer this question about meat department employees?
I would like any logical answer. I think it is based in greed. Why do they package their hamburger in 1.25-1.75 pound packages? Unless you are cooking hamburgers, all recipes call for POUNDS of ground beef. Why don't they make it simple and package in (or within say 0.05) 1, 2 or 5 pound packages? I will say that if I found a store that had quality meat and packaged it that way, that is where I would get my meat. So, is there a reason other than to sell that extra meat? ie GREED?applie...I did not ask for a food lesson. Considering that one day margarine is better than butter, the next butter is better, the next meat causes cancer, and next week it will be good for you. The fact is that doctors are "practicing" medicine...and they need more practice. And nutritionists have no clue what they are doing. Cholesterol???? The only reason that the "safe levels" have changed is because the drug manufactureres wanted to put more people on cholesterol drugs and destroy their health with statin drugs. And there is NO correlation between cholesterol and heart disease. That is manipulated statistics. So I will continue to eat what I believe is a good diet and NEVER pay attention to the "studies" which are financed by people who want AND GET results to sell more of their products. moreResolved Question: Purina Healthful Life (from Cat Chow)?

I have always had a very deep love for animals and have been involved with helping to stop animal cruelty. I have never had a problem eating meat though because I always thought the animals were raised and killed humanely. I just recently saw a movie exposing the truths about where our food comes from and how it all happens. I was disgusted. Not only are the poor animals fed and raised inhumanely but the way they are killed and handled is appalling. The health factors are also huge. They feed animals food they are not suppost to be eating and giving living situations which are truely uninhabitable. I'm very scared that I will get samanila or some other horrible disease by eating a burger now. I just love the taste and texture of meat so much that I don't think I will be able to give it up. My top 3 foods have meat in them. My question is how to I elliminate the risk of getting sick without totally giving up meat. Does anyone know of an organic, humane, producer who sells top quality meat in California? I wouldn't have such a problem eating meat if I knew the animals were given a good life and a quick, painless, humane death. Thanks guys and sorry it's so long! moreResolved Question: Meat derivatives in canned food?
Hi, I was reading the back of a canned cat food, Felix, deciding what to feed my cats and the first ingredient was "meat and animal derivatives" This doesn't sound good first off as it's not only meat, but animal too. I know that by-products are not good for cats and wondered if derivatives were the same thing, and were as bad. I don't feed my cat Felix, as I know it is low quality etc. They both eat Wellness Core But I was wondering what "derivatives" means. Thanks Jess. moreResolved Question: cat food allergy issue - fish?
Ok, so my part Siamese male cat, Harvey, has developed an allergy to fish. I had been feeding him Innova canned cat food, which has chicken and herring in it. For some time, he thrived on it, his coat getting unbelievably soft, and his energy level being excellent. Then in the last few weeks he has been unenthusiastic about that food, preferring other brands that I rotate with it. All winter he scratched at one ear, and I thought it was just winter dry skin, but with winter over, he continued to scratch. So, off to the vet we go. It's been a few days since he had any of the Innova to eat, and his ear is less itchy, and not so irritated-looking. Vet draws blood, one of the factors, don't ask me to remember which, indicated that there was definitely some allergy going on. Prescribed antibiotic/cortisone cream for the ear, and recommended permanently discontinuing fish in the diet. After doing a bit of reading up on cat food allergies, I learned that it is generally the protein that the cat has the allergy to. Then I noticed that one of my favorite brands - Natural Balance - had a low-allergen food, that had no fish in it, but did have salmon oil. Well, ok, if it's the protein that is the allergen, then the oil could possibly be ok. I went to call the vet to ask if that reasoning was, well, reasonable. The vet. we saw yesterday about the food allergy was not available for the phone, and the vet tech taking my message told me that no, you can't give fish oil to a cat who is allergic to fish, even if all the cat is allergic to is the protein. But, she said, we should definitely try him on Hill's Prescription Z/D. I asked her to read the label, and pointed out that it has precious little actual meat, and that my cat doesn't do corn. In his younger days, Harvey had bouts of IBS, happily corrected by avoiding corn and wheat - and no way are we going back to that. She swore up hill and down that there was plenty of protein and no corn in it, well all except for the corn starch. I dunno, maybe in her country, corn starch is made from tree bark. Then I checked out the Innova website, hoping to find that they had something less fishy I could try him on. Well, they have a large number of products, and it was too overwhelming to try to look at every single item. Everything I did look at, the ingredients included herring. So I emailed their customer service address, to ask if they had any canned cat foods without any fish in it, explained that I was asking because while I think their products are of excellent quality, my cat has that pesky fish allergy - and if they didn't, would they please consider developing such a product. Their prompt reply is that, yes, there are var Innova EVO canned 95% Meat has no fish in it, but does have fish oil, but that should not be a problem because cats are allergic to the protein, not the oil. Huh. So, do I trust the info. from a company I already believe in, whose reasoning is similar to what I was already thinking? Or do I trust some vet tech who doesn't comprehend that obligate carnivores need to eat meat, and has no clue what corn starch is? Any one here have any experience, or insight into the matter? moreResolved Question: Do vegetarians really have better heatlh compared to those that eat modest amounts of meat?
Anyone who eats meat may have eaten too much of it or too much low quality meat. Two to five SMALL servings of meat PER WEEK is likely healthier than a typical weekly serving of meat. My point: When the health experts did these comparisons between vegetarians and people who eat meat, a couple of questions arise: 1.Did the vegetarians and meat-eaters have about the same amount of daily activity? 2.HOW MUCH meat were they eating? A twelve-ounce serving of meat every other day is defintely not good. A possible plan: Twelve ounces of meat three days a week = 36 oz. Five ounces of meat three days a week = 20 oz. 3.Of what quality was the meat? Ounce for ounce, lean meat is better than the cheapest fatty meat. 4.Did the meat eaters smoke, or do any other detrimental activity? I'm sure that the health experts checked this before starting, but you never know. Please keep the orginal question in mind as you respond. moreResolved Question: One of our chickens has lost weight and I'm not sure what's wrong.?
She is only about 5 years old. She has lost a lot of weight and is very lethargic. We have four other chickens who are all fine. They are fed a good quality chook food as well as fresh vegetables and cooked meats. They haven't been wormed in a few months and we are planning on doing it this week. This chicken has stopped sleeping with the other chickens and chooses to sleep by herself in a seperate coop in a pile of hay. We are keeping her very comfortable and well fed. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make her a bit fatter? She is not as keen on her food as she used to be. Maybe she is getting old? Could she have any diseases that I am not aware of? She hasn't been exposed to any other chickens and as I said none of the other chickens are acting this way. Any ideas are appreciated. Also the chook's comb has turned a darker colour, not the usual bright red. moreResolved Question: What's the plainest kind of meat? Simplest to digest, basically?
I've been vegetarian for the past two years, and I want to go back to eating meat (just a little bit - basically only quality stuff, holiday meals, if its hard to find vegetarian meals when i'm at a restaurant; that sort of thing).... The thing is, I need a simple kind of meat to eat so that i don't get sick from the adjustment. My boyfriend suggested hamburger meat, since it's very plain - yea or nay to that? Any other suggestions? Thanks everybody! I have this sliced turkey sandwich meat in a package that looks like this: http://tinypic.com/r/2lo0t9v/5 except it is a two pack. Well, the first package was eaten quite some time ago, and I forgot about the other package that was attached. It is still sealed - never been opened. The exp. date on it says: "For best quality, purchase and use by date shown. Once opened, use within 7 days - 22 MAY 2009" So is it not suitable to eat? I figured it wasn't since the thing says "PURCHASE AND USE by the date shown" (thus, use by MAY 22), but my roommate swears up and down that it is still good because the seal has never been broken, and how I should think of it as a can of vegetables or something. Haha, I don't know. Is it edible? moreResolved Question: I'm thinking of breaking veg...Advice?
I've been vegetarian for over the past two and a half years. I started out very convinced that it was the right thing to do, and I still think that vegetarianism is a very noble practice. I just don't believe in it as strongly as I used to, so I've decided to go back to eating meat. I definitely won't be eating as much meat as I used to --probably just when my family cooks quality meat, or for holiday meals-- but I hope you understand my reasoning and respect my decision. That being said, do you have any warnings or advice for when I begin to eat meat again? I'm sure I'll need to go through a slow adjustment, to get used to consuming animal products again, but I appreciate any input you can give me. moreResolved Question: Harris Teeter Rancher Meat?

I have an 11 months old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Since September of 2008, she has been on a raw, prey model diet. She has absolutely thrived on this diet. Lately though, she has been refusing her raw food. She is getting bored with the raw. I gave in. I am worried about her getting what she needs in a diet, and I know I can't be exact with bone/meat/organs ratios. So, today, we bought her some Wellness canned food and a small bag of Wellness Core. We were thinking of feeding her both. My questions: Does anyone feed a high quality kibble and canned food along with their raw? How should I go about feeding it? When I do feed raw, should I still follow the prey model? I know I shouldn't feed both in the same meal, but I was thinking of feeding raw in the morning, and Wellness at night. Does that sound right? I feel like I'm giving up, but I know I can't provide everything she needs with the prey model diet alone. I have two cats; calico females age 8, sisters from the same litter. Strictly dry food diet, one litter box - automated scooping with crystals. Three weeks ago I noticed odd behavior from my kitty, Snickers. She was going into the litter box more frequently with little to no urine. She didn't seem to be in any pain or discomfort and her attitude was the same. After doing some online research and speaking with a breeder friend of mine, I started homeopathic treatment. Bought new organic high-quality dry and canned food, meat and rice based, instead of meat-meal and corn based. I also bought cranberry capsules from the health food store and made parsley infused water (boiled 1 qt water with 1 bunch parsley, strained and cooled). I started integrating the new dry food over the next week and immediately started feeding her canned food twice daily making it into a soup with lots of extra water and the cranberry capsules. I also force feed her the parsley infused water with a dropper 2-3 times a day. I did this for ten days and started to notice an improvement. Urinating more and less frequently. After the ten days of treatment, I stopped feeding her canned food and put her back on dry food only, but the new dry food. Five days after the end of treatment, her symptoms returned. So I started her back on canned food with cranberry capsules and took her to the vet on Monday to have a urinalysis completed to make sure there's no infection or blockage. They put her on IV fluids and kept her for the day. When she came home that night, she started urinating blood and has ever since. The test results came back yesterday... no infection or bacteria, no crystals or blockage, but lots of blood. The doctor says it's FLUTD Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease and it should resolve itself within 7-10 days. It's typically caused by stress and can be treated with pain reliever until the bleeding stops. If it does not resolve itself, their next suggestion would be an x-ray to determine in there's any stones in her bladder/kidney, which they say is not too common. They say keep the litter box clean, her environment comfortable, and monitor her urine. I read online that changing the diet can be beneficial as well. Most places say no dry food at all, only wet food twice a day. Encourage water intake. Reduce stress. And try antioxidant vitamins and herbs. I'm very concerned for her health and safety and I hate that she can't tell me how she feels. The doctor didn't seem to think it's a big deal and really only recommended a pain reliever. But she doesn’t act like she's in pain, so will it help anything? We're leaving for vacation this Saturday for 7 days. My neighbor and mom will be there to check on her, but I feel horrible leaving not knowing if she's okay and if I'm doing everything I can to help her. PLEASE any suggestions or advice would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. moreVoting Question: How come most chinese restaurants no longer stuff their.... ?

It has come to my attention that my 3 1/2 year old Border Collie, Demon, scratches horribly when we are in the State of Washington. Now before asking for help, I am going to announce what I know, and what I have done in the past to try and help him, only to have him go back to a rediculous state of chronic scratching as we have arrived in Seattle some 5 days ago. I attained Demon from a local breeder an hour north of Seattle, and had him at 11 weeks of age. I had just turned 18 at the time, with my first dog, and although I had a more than average knowledge about dogs than any 40 year old, I started him on Eukanuba dog food. 6 months down the line, I grew a brain, started to compete in Rally O, Formal Obedience, and Agility with some sheepherding on the side, and switched him to a holistic dog food, Innova EVO. Never had I had a problem. I moved back to San Diego when he was around 8 months of age, and I never had a problem with any itching. Demon had always been on Advantix since Day 1 that I got him, and I had a reapplication every 3-4 weeks. Around 2 1/2 years of age, he started scratching some. And we first thought it was fleas, yet it wasn't. We decided to come to Washington for the summer last year late May. No scratching. About 2 weeks later, he started itching. And he itches every 30 minutes or so. I took him to a couple of Veterinarians. The 1st one said it was his dog food. I had to argue that she was wrong with a passsion. She recommended that I take Science Diet. I said HELL no. As Science Diet, or any DOG FOOD FROM PETS MART, WALMART, or Grocery store is complete shit and is horrible for your dog. She asked what I fed him, I said EVO, and she said that was the problem cause the dumb bitch didn't hear about the dog food. EVO has no grains, no fillers, is made of quality meat, no meat-by product, corn, gluten meal, flour, animal digest, nothing BAD you can find in Dog Chow, Purina, Pedigree, Beneful, Royal Canin, etc. The second vet said the same. So they put Demon on prednizone, a type of steroid. When he was on it, it made the scratching worse, he formed bumps, he started getting red swells. I was so mad at the veterinarians, they wanted to "test" another type of medicine on him, I said no as all they kept wanting to do was perscribe and perscribe and perscribe. The 3rd vet we went to 3 weeks later said he was getting bathed too much. Once every 3 weeks? That isn't a lot. And I use all natural, all holistic dog shampoo that has oatmeal in it. He doesn't have a dry coat, he has a nice coat, he gets brushed 3-4 times a week, and has oils we put on his coat to prevent it from drying out. Veterinarians 4-6 wanted to put him on the pred too. I am just so frustrated that these people couldn't figure it out, and they did very little, or so I feel, to help with the situation. We had recently left San Diego and came to Seattle some 4-5 days ago, and he's scratching again. We have the advantix on him. We started him on the BARF diet (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). Somethings I generated on my own is that he is maybe allergic to the Santa Ana Winds as they come along prior to the summer, and scratches. Maybe there's a dust or pollen he is allergic to in Wahsington? What baffles me is that he was born in washington and has lived here with me for 8 months before going to Cali. and after that he never scratched, and olny did so when we relocated again....
